There are some flights included in the software. I cannot load them. I have found them in my documents in Vista. How can I get them in the right place for FSX to read them and start them?

I found the files containing the flights in Program Files Microsoft Games Microsoft Flight Simulator X Flights Addictive VC-10. But they are useless form there...When I click on any of the files the simulator starts but the flight is not loaded ???Bernardo The manual states one can load the flights by clicking Start,Programs,Addictive VC-10,flights All I have here is the PDF files. I decided to reinstall and got the same result. The flights place themselves in Documents Program files Flight simulator X Flights, Addictive VC-10 each flight has a PDF which I cannot open either as it says it is either corrupted or moved |

I cannot delete or edit this post...So I continue replying I don't understand why this forum does this? I don't get an edit option or delete. As you can see I'm trying to see how I get the flights included in the software to work in my FSX SP2 installation in Vista. I reinstalled last night only to find the flights place themselves in the same place under documents/program file/Microsoft Games/ Microsoft Flight Simulator X/ Flights-Addictive Training. In there I get a .wx file for each flight and a PDF which when I try to open with Adobe it says the file has been moved, is corrupted or missing ?...I've even tried to move a single flight to my flights folder and despite it showing it doesn't work. It start the sim with my default flight. The manual states one can load the flights by clicking Start,Programs,Addictive VC-10,flights All I have here is the PDF files. Wow you're having a good old conversation with yourself there Bernardo!
If you click on the ' " Reply' button it will quote the text in the message you are replying to. You can just delete the quoted text if you wish. If you don't want to quote any text then you should use the 'Add Reply' button at the end of the page. This is the standard registered Invision Power Board and that's just how it works. As far as the flights are concerned, this is something that they broke in one of the service packs. The flights are there, but you cannot open them because they are in subfolders. If you empty the content of the subfolders into their containing folder then the flights should appear. I keep meaning to ask a friend to convert them to Missions for me but we are all really busy and I don't like to impose on his generosity. David -------------------- |

Don't laugh...Thanks for the guide lines here. Not only have I been talking to myself...I've also been cussing the flights ha,ha...I downloaded some flight for My copy of the CS727 sometime ago...And those work. Shame I was looking forwards for the ones with the VC-10; I've moved,c/p...Moved again uninstalled and reinstalled added my fixes and yours and still nothing...
Thanks for making me the wiser...Now I throw in the towel with the VC-10 flights, until you ask your friend for help. And if you manage to fix it? I also noticed my Kiosk flights are missing when I press on "Load" ( Only the 727 flights appear on the list) No Pyramids flights, Fly through a barn,etc... or any of the others appear. The foilder exists, but they don't work/open |

I'd swear at it regardless and relentlessly....At the time they ACES should have noticed this and have done something about it, even though it's third party software, then again another reason for them to have got the ax...

I have been told that there was nobody there anymore who understood how the FS engine worked. They have just been bolting extra bits onto the original kernel for years. Getting rid of ACES will hopefully allow Microsoft to start afresh if/when they do put a team back together again. It has become so much bloat-ware now that something really had to be done. They may consider though that re-creating Flight Simulator from scratch is not financially viable now that the game console is the primary game platform. A great pity in my mind as a good PC is still a far better platform.

This might be true. They cost me two HD in two different machines here. Not being computer blessed I did what they told me to do and in both occations they gort me to format the HD'S of these two computers, they simply forgot to ask if I had put in a password to open windows and that is an essential point when formating a HD. So they got so slow they became unusable, even after reinstalling the complete OS it being XP at the time. Many a time when I use to call them for assistance which they only offer three free calls here in DK,but based in Sweden. after purshase of any FS software. The amount of damage they can cause during one of these is dissastrous. But I've become the wiser and use the various forums instead and ask for advice from some reputable sources I learnt to know through out the years.
As far as a new creation of FS it being FSXI...This I read was on the pipeline, but they could do so little improvement to FSX it was barely profitable, but they would instead add so many other things to it a HUGE machine would be required a so called Super Computer to run the software. And lets face it only NASA has one of these and they won't lend it to us. Realistically speaking FSX is a good product. It was launched and there Microsoft finished theire responsability with it. They left the product to developers to finish,I guess they saw this coming since the days of Fs9.Ands today it all comes down to hardware. Bernardo |

Maybe this isn't the correct way of doing it, all I know is that it worked and the flight loaded. There's still work to be done you must agree David how to make these flights show in the MISSIONS Menu. I forgot to mention that it' the .FLT file that works. I've also tried with some of the others and it works just the same. This post has been edited by Bernardo: Oct 26 2009, 08:45 PM |

That is correct. There is no ATC in the training flight. You need to use it with the PDF file.

Thanks David I figured that out. I try to make notes and remember as much as possible of the intructions in order to complete the flight. But I think I am experienced enough to complete any flight on the the VC-10 in FSX as I have written earlier to avoid this. I just like the challenge. So Today I tried the flight to Crete; Full Speed more than 250 KTS and 2X sim so as not to disconnect the autopilot. I read you review of the article of the VC-10 In PC Pilots magasine. I agree with you entirely. It doesn't seem the author of that article is very FS knowlegable. While flying today to Crete I could clearly see the inside of the engine blabes moving ( This might be contradictory) As you say the VC-10 had static blades to induce/direct the inflow of air into the combustion chambers. It's a shame FSX has such a bad video recorder, otherwise I could a video.
